In 1998
this sherry matured AULTMORE single malt whisky was reduced
to 40% and then returned to cask to settle prior to bottling
(this is good practice).
While its
siblings went on to take GOLD
at the 1999 International Wine and Spirit Competition this TRUCULENT
truant escaped bottling, maturing at reduced strength for a
further five years. Two other casks dropped below 40% and have
been blended into OBLIVION, this soul survivor shows
the benefit of maturing at low strength, no other malt has been
treated this way and the results are SPECTACULAR!
We have
been trialing it in the shop over the weekend, selling 20 bottles
in just three days. Here's some of the results:
The noise
is bold, fighting it's way our of the glass, more akin to a
whisky at 60%alc. There's hot, spiced, mulled wine, fruit, cloves
and plenty of other stuff.
To taste
there's plenty of oak, sherry and smoke, spice and vanilla.
A real treat especially for a fan of a sherry matured dram.
