Jim
Murray's book Classic Blended Scotch is the most authoritative on the
subject. We are delighted that he saw fit to include the Loch Fyne in
his work. This is what he said:
"Until 1993
Richard Joynson and his wife Lyndsay ran a salmon hatchery. Then they
bought a shop in the quaint and beautiful little village of Inveraray,
on the west coast of Scotland, whose skyline is dominated by the Inveraray
Castle, and have since become among Scotland’s foremost whisky
enthusiasts. They turned their shop into something approaching a sanctuary
to whisky lovers, selling all they could find on the subject, beginning
a whisky newsletter and even introducing their own blend in 1996. For
small independent outlets to launch a single malt is nothing unusual.
For them to launch a blend is something to be celebrated. While the
Loch Fyne Whisky is sold in a few Argyll bars the vast majority is sold
in the excellent Loch Fyne Whiskies shop. Fortunately for those unable
to make it there, their business is also a mail order one.
