LFW bottling for 1998. Ace. Superb. Excellent.

Very well balanced, excellent, smokey-sulphury inhale, sweet tingle in the finish then bitter with a suggestion of umami. A fascinating whisky, well balanced and all tongue engaging, if you want to experience umami try the mid-finish of HP18.

Already, from a distance, this whisky smells quite lovely! No surprises of what, sherry and vanilla, closer caramel and wine vinegar, waxy with a little must, matchbox.

A faultless mouthful, toast, a little oak, a hint of sherry-oak and with water a suplhury brimstone and oranges and syrup. A creamy if shortish finish that leaves a chocolate memory.

Rich sweet Speysider - sherry wood, mellow, mature and well balanced. Oaky, touch of solvents. Very well matured dram, very enjoyable.

Seville oranges, flat, musty but intriguing, a slight reek of peat. Very sweet like runny honey. Taste lets it down; hot slightly bitter salty finish. Can I use the word vanilid, please?

Round and fruity, sherry style with soft eucalyptus, very engaging and quite perfumed. There¹s smoky and nutty elements, an odd balance to it and a great finish to it, a remarkable dram that gets better from an impressive start.

OFFICIAL TASTING NOTE

Terrific nose, with layers of complexity. Briny, slightly medicinal, vanilla, touch of smoke (tobacco).

Salty notes (slightly dry), spicy (pepper), lovely smooth vanilla, burnt oak / cedar.

Adding water the medicinal edge subsides to reveal honeyed sweetness and waves of vanilla notes. Hint of burnt ash / bonfires develops as you leave the whisky to develop in the glass.

More fruit evident - peaches, plums. Cinnamon with slight medicinal edge.

Rich and complex - full of Highland character.'
