The smoke leaps from the glass, then smouldering hay and charred kidney pie, all with the BenRiach zest. Once over the gums there is instant all covering smoke that becomes peat and stays for a couple of weeks. Ace.

This is a HUGE whisky with richness and intensity of flavour akin to a Lagavulin Distillers Edition (but quite different). Placed on the Malt Whisky Flavour Map I'd put it in square J6 , maybe to the right of J6.

I love this, discovered by many at the LFWBar in 2008. The 20yo is richer, bolder than the 16 with lemon zest (oily skin) and a slight reek of tobacco.

On the tongue it is pokey and prickly with more of that excellent oiliness and the lemon lingers for a long time.
