The Singleton of Dufftown OB 12yo 40%alc.

'Perfectly balanced, naturally rich and smooth' according to the front label, which may be so but the real reason why this single malt tastes so jolly good is that it looks sooo good. Very soft and easy this is an ideal dram for those whose prior whisky experience has not been a happy one but who wants to give it another try.

Personally I struggled to get any flavour from it, but it does look great and I expect to sell shedfulls.

Edradour OB Sherry Decanter 1997 56.1%alc.

Single sherry cask bottling of Edradour from the new owner. Nice decanter style bottle, sherry-rich oaky tea-caddys, sweet and floral with a nice bass note. Strong, round and powerful with a pleasant perfume (parma violets and lavender). Water reveals a little smoke and confirms a suspicion of some must.

Very good and with that presentation ideal for lurking on the sideboard waiting for the cigars (my boy).

Highland Park OB 18yo 43%alc. Bottling of the Year 1998

LFW bottling for 1998. Ace. Superb. Excellent.

Very well balanced, excellent, smokey-sulphury inhale, sweet tingle in the finish then bitter with a suggestion of umami. A fascinating whisky, well balanced and all tongue engaging, if you want to experience umami try the mid-finish of HP18.

Rich sweet Speysider - sherry wood, mellow, mature and well balanced. Oaky, touch of solvents. Very well matured dram, very enjoyable.

Seville oranges, flat, musty but intriguing, a slight reek of peat. Very sweet like runny honey. Taste lets it down; hot slightly bitter salty finish. Can I use the word vanilid, please?
