Bruichladdich Peat OB 46%Abv. Bruichladdich Peat OB 46%Abv.

The blurb on the tin says this is ‘refreshingly free of “medicinal” overtones', which is true. I also find it refreshingly free of peat, relatively.

Smoke is the dominant element; tasted neat it is sensational akin to licking hot wood ash, great billows of it (I think that’s the collective noun for smokes). There is a little peat on the nose and in the dilute finish but I’m going back for some more pure smoke.

Bruichladdich - Infinity OB 2nd Edition 52.5%vol. Bruichladdich - Infinity OB 2nd Edition 52.5%vol.

A new vatting with less sherry than our old favourite which was a mix of peaty Bruichladdich and three sherry cask vintages. This time there is no sherry but they have buggered about with Rioja casks for a finish. But let's ignore that.

This is a peaty whisky, a little flatter than many Islays, like one of the new mainland peatys. A quiet, green and oily nose. The taste is dry, vegetative with a good fishiness and a big peaty swallow, for me it's too much peat I prefer the first Infinity, we will test it in the shop to see what you punters think....

Soon to be replaced with Infinity 3 (2008)

(Price excluding VAT:  £33.11) £38.90 Including VAT at 17.5%

Bruichladdich OB Waves 7yo 46%Alc. Bruichladdich OB Waves 7yo 46%Alc.
Now all gone - look out for the new version soon.

Waves is the peated raw material that makes up the Infinity whiskies. A peated distillation made by Willy Tait of Jim Beam in 1999 before the new owners came to be.

A nose of peat and unburnt Madeira (whatever!), anisseed and fresh sea air. The taste is hot, suggests an alien cask and has a long finish. Water knocks out the peat - makes it quite an Arran style.

Bruichladdich OB 12yo 46%Abv. Bruichladdich OB 12yo 46%Abv.
Now discontinued and so limited to a maximum of 2 bottles per customer...

(Replacing the 10yo, ignore the 'Second Edition' thing, first went to Oddbins or someone).

A great Bruichladdich, well it's not a wine enhance matrured finished thing, entirely Bourbon matured or as they call it 'traditional'.

A nose of honey and bananas, a little thicker than my old pal, the 10yo. The taste is floral with a little smoke, an ace to replace an ace.

Soon to be replaced with a 'Peat' (2008)

On the Malt Whisky Flavour Map we reckon this belongs in square: E6

Bruichladdich OB 125th Anniversary 1970 35yo 40%Abv. Bruichladdich OB 125th Anniversary 1970 35yo 40%Abv.

Limited release of 2502 bottles, a re-racking of the 1970 vintage that we got awfully excited about just after the distillery was re-opened, the rest, served now at cask strength (just!) was transferred to Zind Humbrecht Pino Gris Alsace casks (why?).

I got lots of blue cheese about the nose (do I really have to re-phrase that?) also oak. The taste is well balanced, fruity, aniseed and an odd wine confectionary but not wine gums. A sweet swallow and a very fruity finish that turns citrus then salty. Give it time to breath in the glass.

Andy is very excited about this, the best I've had, ever! So that will be an ace then.
