Glenmorangie Original (New) OB 10yo 40%alc. DEAL! Glenmorangie Original (New) OB 10yo 40%alc. DEAL!

Deal price is £2.00 off

was £27.90 inc vat
NOW £25.90 inc vat

A more vital experience than the 10yo of old. This remains floral but has more zest and nuttiness, mellow with a distinctive damp oakiness. Tasting and assign water reveals a distinctive perfume that is not my style too scented, new pot pouri, heavy on the lavender, if you enjoy a perfume in your dram this is excellent.

Nectar d'or, tut! A slight prickle and vanilla, butterscotch and pepper and a first for me I've written "(ferret?)". Strawberries, fresh yet with a weight about it, some tobacco. On the tongue there's pepper and lots of lemon which gets concentrated in the swallow. Heavy and none too subtle.

'La Santa' is gaelic for passion and warmth, okay we'll let that concept pass for now An ace, especially for people who appreciate sherried drams but not swamped with the stuff. Round, soft and weighty and all the great notes that sherry maturation imparts, nuttiness, velvet, spice and chocolate and a whole lot more, investigate for yourself.

'Quinta', Portuguese wine estate and 'ruban' gaelic for ruby, why bother? Is this necessary? Similarly with the whisky itself, why bother, is it necessary, it's nice, very nice, but hardly malt Scotch. 'Weak spirity port', is one tasting note I have. The other mentions syrupy caramel, chocolate, spice and ruby port. There, enjoyable none-the-less.

Glenmorangie OB Astar 57.1%alc. Glenmorangie OB Astar 57.1%alc.

Re-vamp of 'Artisan' which was a disappointing seller when considering the quality of the whisky. Artisan casks are from new, specially seasoned (dried - not salt ’n pepper) Ozark oak and now at 57% the complexity is even more impressive.

Initially quiet yet threatening great power which becomes an aroma of fresh-cut seasoned oak, herb garden (parsley) caramel and esters (bananas) some smoke and then minty eucalyptus and sweet vanillas. Water produced sherbet flying saucers and more vanilla and candy, fresh. In the mouth it is soft, then prickly with oranges and perfume and pears and apricots, and perfume. So much going on I gave up note taking but was inspired to add ice – magnificent! (Next time I'll use crushed ice). An ace for complexity but could be marked down for that reason too.

Glenmorangie OB Margaux Finish 1987 46%alc. Glenmorangie OB Margaux Finish 1987 46%alc.

I suppose it's got to get worse before it gets better. Actually the whisky is quite good if unremarkable (and not worth an rrp of 200), perhaps that's why they have to package it in a case clearly devised to stop you opening it.

In the old days Glenmorangie was Scottish owned and we resented having the piss taken out of us, but now it's a French handbag company - so that's okay.

Glenmorangie OB Artisan Cask 50cl 46%alc. Glenmorangie OB Artisan Cask 50cl 46%alc.

50cl attractively packaged Glenmorangie from casks made of specially sourced Ozark oak, slow grown and air dried which brings on more oak characters sooner.

A nose of soft spiciness with a hint of smoke and liquorice. Dynamic fizz on the tongue, pepper, the oak has a cedar note and a nice vanilla swallow.

Water reveals the balance to a little on the bitter edges of the tongue. A very nice Glenmorangie.
