| Highland Park OB 40yo 48.3%alc.
Classic Highland park, classic Spirit. Medium heavy sherry style with good, lasting power and a rich long finish. Analytically there is restrained sherry oak, slight tar, heather, some must, honey, raisins and smoke. Tongue swamping and an exceptionally long finish. Ace, natch. On the Malt Whisky Flavour Map I put it in square G7 (to the left in G7). Complex / Rich / Smoky

| Highland Park OB 30yo 48.1%alc.[new style]
Tasting note from customer Graham; Tatsed the HP30yo at Whisky Live - Oh yeah - It is better than the 18yo. Got a tip - Have a scoop of Hagen Daz vanilla ice cream and as soon as it's disappeared down yer gullet, follow with a slug of HP25. Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!! Anyone else like to contribute? [Blind tasting note from RJ during the SFWC:SCORE: 4/5 Inviting nose of dry cardboard, smoke & acetone - rich European oak. Sweet oak flavours, tingly, sweet, long with a good finish. Well balanced.]

| Auchentoshan OB Classic 40%alc. Appropriately named lowland malt, a very pleasing appetiser that is well matured and well balanced with butter and lemon, fresh and grassy with an oaky swallow and a warm creamy finish. Ace.Somewhere about grid reference C1 on the malt Whisky Flavour Map Light / Delicate

| Auchentoshan OB Three Wood [new style] 43%alc. A nose of sweet bananas and associated vanilla that freshens with time, on the taste it is distinctly winey with (gun?) oil. Some sherry tannin in the swallow. Overall surprisingly tight and closed. On the Malt Whisky Flavour map I'd put this about square H4: Rich / Delicate

| Auchentoshan OB 12yo 40%alc. Another great Auchentoshan. Rich oak but not too much, floral and a grind of black pepper. Some smoke-like-bitterness with rich berries and the tar I enjoy from a sherry cask. A soft nicely balanced and fruity dram with a great long fizzy/sweetie finish. Almost an ace.C6 on the Malt Whisky Flavour map in my opinion. Complex / Light

| Auchentoshan OB 18yo 43%alc. Nose is great, rich spiciness, caramel and then some coal gas (I happen to like the smell of coal gas). However the initial taste is a carbolic prickle and unbalanced that spoiled the dram but I did have very high hopes for this. The finish is long with a style of soft 'English' chocolate (too much milk for perfectionists but bloody nice).Find the Auchy 18 in square H2 on the Malt Whisky Flavour map. Rich / Delicate

| Tomintoul OB 1976 40%alc.
Bottled 2007 A beautiful and well balanced dram. Aromas of runny honey, berries and love hearts that develops into perfume of violets. Time gives plums and more perfume. On the tongue it is mercurial with evident perfume. Overall soft and very well balanced. A more refined version of the 16yo. If we were to place this on the Malt Whisky Flavour Map it would be in square: C3 Light / Delicate

A crystal decanter and Glencairn crystal glasses. Limited to 1917 decanters. "This precious blend contains some of the world's rarest and most extraordinary whiskies, such as Garnheath, Killyloch and Glen Flagler, whose distilleries are now no more. Skilfully hand-selected and blended over 35 years ago, this unique and exceptional blend was left to mature in Spanish oak casks, which lay quietly maturing deep in warehouses until they were re-discovered forty years later." | Ardbeg - Renaissance OB 1998 10yo 55.9%alc.
Maximum six bottles per order. Final chapter in the odyssey of Ardbegs recent history under the new owners now achieving ten years, limited release of quite a few but not as many as some would wish. Like the last chapter Almost there this is fully mature and not at all silly. Carbolic but complex initially, a touch of aniseed and the vent from a dry-cleners, now comes the peat which fills the glass. There are many elements, fresh and fishy. To taste it is soft and peaty, a hot smouldering blacksmiths fire. A long long finish which eventually returns to that fresh carbolic that began it all. Ace for Ardbeg fans of course. If I were putting this on the Flavour Map it would be somewhere about B10 but that denies its complexity. Light / Smoky

| Springbank OB 1997 54.9%alc. Batch 2.
Batch#2, bottled May 2008. 10,800 bottle now produced as a follow up to the wonderful first vintage 1997. Initially musty and oily this is much bolder than I recall batch 1 but still reminding me of the vintage 1919. The oiliness becomes sharper and after time chocolate emerges. The taste is fabulous, still musty (less leather) sweet and very sucky, bubble gummy. I'd plonk this in square G7 on the Malt Whisky Flavour Map Complex / Rich / Smoky
