4th of the new individual vattings by one of the industry's great noses, Sir Douglas McIvor and well up to the best of his pickings.

Like Doug there is tobacco-sherry notes, a clean middle weight, not too fat, not too skinny.

Buzzing, fresh and inviting. An interesting mouthfell, not particularly balanced but the wobble is very enjoyable.

With water the overall experience is a perfect sherry style single malt scotch. Another ace from Doug.

Not a single malt but a mix of four smoky-peaty whiskies from Islay (and so termed ‘blended malt’). Inverarity Islay fills the peaty-whisky section of the malt whisky flavour spectrum with the least expensive yet delicious bottle of Islay malt that we have.

Created for Islay fans there is a very emphatic phenolic and medicinal character - peat and iodine - classic Islay qualities; a good oiliness, powerful flavours yet also a breeze of fresh air, brace yourself for an ace!

An ace! But not for the whisky novice.

The nose (of hot spicy chicken) is the weakest part (but very powerful). Taste is softer than the nose and has good balance from Speyside style thought to very distinctive Talisker and Caol Ila notes. Very much in the Johnnie Walker style and a well thought out creation.

A vatted malt from Wm Grant & Son of Glenfiddich, Balvenie and Kininvie fame. Frankly I think that the package is deceptive (not "27"years old) and the description confusing ("triple malt").

Footnote, they have taken the '27' off the neck strap, so they must agree.

A well ballanced if understated malt, nothing wrong with it but would prefer something else.

Rattray's Blended Malt 19yo 55.8%alc.

A lovely example of artist created whisky from Brian Morrison of the Morrison Bowmore family.

A mix of Auchentoshan, Balblair, Benriach and Bowmore all over 19 years, all sherry-wood matured and all-over a lovely malt whisky.

It has many layers; overall it is liveliness in a mellow background. A light, constant peatiness over sweet and soft. You can pick out notes from all four whiskies, Bowmore’s peat, Balblair’s honey and Benriach toffee, another note of the combined four and a sixth character that I’d credit with being Craigellachieness, a true whisky-zing.

The finish is magnificent, long and rumbling medium peat. Ace.
