An ace whisky for sherried single malt fans, and look at the value!

While I was dining with the owner of Glenfarclas (clang! did I hear a name drop?) I mentioned how good the 105 was at present, he cursed and said the warehousemen had picked the wrong casks! Thank heavens for that!...

Neat, there are powerful clean esters with a great sherried- peperiness, a very promising sherry matured whisky as you would expect from Glenfarclas.

To taste this is very well ballanced and mercurial on the tongue, a little nice bitterness in the swallow (and much less sulphur than most sherried drams these days).

I'm looking forward to trying this, Ardmore (when good) has the most authentic peatiness of any mainland distillery but can be variable, this, the first OB bottling we have seen on general release, is the first new release from it's new owners (Jas.) Beam Global who won Ardmore with their acquisition of Teacher's (and Laphroaig).

It says; 'Non-chill filtered. Matured for a final period in 19th Century style "Quarter Casks".

Now I've sold a bottle and pursuaded the buyer to give me a taste...

It's as good as I had hoped, there is slight smoke from a tarry base, then fruit, suspect shellfish and cleaning solution (carbolic? no). To taste I've got 'good, very good. Warming peat and smouldering fire. A hot swallow with a long sweet and fruity smokey finish, excelent.'

Best neat, it's an ace.

A very well balanced dram on nose and taste with the An Cnoc style and power of a Big Hairy Highlander.

Round and mellow on the nose with citrus fruits and vanilla (Yankee oak) and liquorice (allsorts).

The mouth experience is sensational, immediately spreading to all parts in excellent balance, a significant pause then a huge warmth with a typical An Cnoc ginger swallow reminiscent of the fabled 21yo.

A very long hot spicy finish.

Ace whisky suited for a Clynelish fan or similar.
