Old News (aint that the best?)....
Historic News (Winter 2005 / Spring 2006) . . .
10th June, 2006
A good, heavily peated distillation from Tomintoul owning Industry Enigmas Angus Dundee, very good too, find it in the Tomintoul section.
4th June, 2006
Excellent offerings from Ben Nevis and Brora...
23rd May, 2006

21st April, 2006
To explain: ASBO - Anti Social Behaviour Order, a new tool of our increasingly dictatorial nanny state to curb the results of a failed social education system.
Usually placed on delinquent under-age louts. Like young Islay whiskies.
19th April, 2006
Ardbeg continues it's stomp to 10 years old with the replacement for Very Young - now unavailable owing to an ASBO being slapped on it.
13th April, 2006
Happy Easter y'all.
10th April, 2006
BenRiach Authenticus was a Centurion in the Roman army who captured William Wallace and took him to Linlithgow Palace where they spent the rest of their days playing Moog synthesiser and nose flute for Lady Diana of Elgin. Or a peated distillation from Benriach like Curiositas, his camp brother.
4th April, 2006
A scrummy Auchroisk, not too heavily sherried for it's age so not a replacement for the "Singleton" bottling of old, but better if you ask me.
24th March, 2006
Arran comes of age. And with it, the prize of patience. Hopefully they will now refrain from pumping out the most laughable range of wood finishes and concentrate on selling that which was predicted - a superb single malt, their new 10yo 'standard' is top class.
16th March, 2006
Signatory fuel the CRAIGDUFF story with the release of Glenisla, less peated than Craigduff and according to their researches both were distilled at Glen Keith...
15th March, 2006 - supplemental. Gosh! This is a bit hectic!
The triumph of an ignorant brand manager over content and wisdom.
15th March, 2006
It's not easy writing novel information in this whisky lark, (or maybe it's too easy to cut-n-paste other people's drivel). However; prolific emailer, LFW-chum-cum-legal-advisor and now, new dad - Par Caldenby has managed to write a corker of an opinionated book - The Enthusiast's Course on Enjoying Malt Whisky, £15.00.
To go with it, a couple of aces from Siggy Scotch-Dust.
13th March, 2006
One for his 40th birthday, one for the Smokeheads (from the Glengoyne owners) and one from Ewan.
7th March, 2006
This website avoids the cult of personality, but it seems that it is noticed when that is missed, so-be it.
(I'm trying to build a house, difficult anywhere, laughable in the U. K. - where the building industry is wallowing in the dark ages - incompetence, inadequacy and waste prevail, it's unmitigated crap.
A few of you have noted we are not so active on the NEWS front. Well, we could list a bunch of new, non-descript, independent bottlings of also-ran whiskies if you wish, - but you're not interested in buying them anyway - why trouble you?...
If there is news worthy of reporting we will report it. In the meantime if you are looking for entertainment look here http://www.cheeseontour.com/index.php?p=12&l=260 and, by way of entertainment for those who visit this site frequently, let us have your more interesting pictures of odd things pictured in front of whisky thingmys... (keep 'em small - we're still dial-up here).
26th February, 2006
A new presentation from Signatory, this time it's classy, not a puce-stained rough sawn crate...
16th February, 2006
Something well worth waiting for.
13th February, 2006
Decent sized miniatures from Glenrothes
And some books...
12th January, 2006
20th December, 2005
2nd December, 2005
A pair of Bunnys, let's hope they breed a lot!
29th November, 2005
Some more variants from Loch Lomond, a limited Ardbeg miniature pack and a bonzer Glenury, the perfect stocking filler!
A triumph for our crack I-told-you-so Department regarding the Great CRAIGDUFF Mystery. An email from Alan Greig, Chivas's Heritage Director:
And now all at LFW are insufferably smug.
22nd November, 2005
The Scottish Field Champion Cask from Strathisla, a wonderful Laphroaig and the first HPPE - not-normally Heavily Peated Port Finish - from Benriach and Signatory, Mr. Frumpy here is not impressed but I understand that many who have tried it think it's a 'wow!' How long before we get a double- or multi- finished bimbo?
I hate the phrase "wow!" in tasting notes, don't you?
16th November, 2005
Christmas DEALS!! LFW's traditional goodwill give-away is here...
14th November, 2005
Some stuff from Bruichladdich's FER GOODNESS SAKE TAKE A SLAPPIN' WILL YE? dept.

30th October, 2005
As of Wednesday 2nd November I'm in Canada, in particular for the Spirit of Toronto Whisky Festival, see you there. Upon my return a week later, the SWR will be at the printers and we will be publishing our DEALS! for Christmas soon after that, in the meantime hold on.
Gordon Wright, SWR interview victim of Spring 2005 has released his first batch of fine aged spirits under the ALCHEMIST banner. In a small and temporary departure from our norm, Loch Fyne Whiskies is stocking other spirits! What is the world coming to?
And Gavin Smith's new book THE WHISKY MEN, Scotch's version of Grumpy Gld Men, only much better.
