We have added a
small range of hand rolled Cuban
cigars to the website. All cigars come in a cedar lined tube and
can be shipped worldwide at no extra charge for the first 5 cigars when
purchasing whisky.

APRIL FOOLS THAT
WE ARE...
Today may as well be the day we start increasing prices, OB bottlings
initially, independents over the next few days.
We have Chancellor
Darling's increase (that turns into 70-80p per 40% bottle). We also
note many producers are using the opportunity to increase their prices
as well, allegedly (potential) demand in China is putting a strain on
stocks, what nonsense!
Even our own Loch
Fyne and Loch Fyne Liqueur are about to suffer increased production
costs.
Simple advice is
drink better and appreciate more.
SO, BY WAY OF COMPENSATION,
we have reduced the UK shipping charge from £7.50 to £5.00, for April
only which is otherwise a dull month for mail order trade, thanks to
Mr. Darling for his contribution to that.

DON'T PANIC!!
The man twice voted UK's Most Boring Politician has done something very
boring; he's raised UK excise duty and VAT on a bottle of spirits at
40% by 59p.
For a bottle of
cask strength we're looking at almost a pound on a bottle. Don't be
fooled that you should buy your booze tonight. The rate of duty goes
up at the weekend and all on any shop shelves is unaffected until deliveries
are made after that. LFW will be adjusting prices as new deliveries
come in, starting towards the end of next week and taking up to a month
to complete the increases.

Meaning of LFW, part II Continued from here
I dug out a pristine, near unopened copy of Jackson's World Guide in
which he revealed that there were some 140 different bottlings of Scotch
malt Whiskies, "there you go, we can fill a shop with that!" The shop
in question is the wee chemist (or puffed up 'Apothecary' as it is)
immediately next to our present spot but the asking price was prohibitive,
forget that, there was another shop for sale in Inveraray. Meantime
I had started swotting my whisky. And got hooked...

Today
is the 15th anniversary of the creation of Loch Fyne Whiskies. The Present
Mrs Joynson and I were having a slow morning in bed discussing future
career options in mid-Argyll. TPMJ asked what could we sell form the
small shop that was for sale at the time. Whisky seemed like a good
idea but we did not know if there were enough to fill a shop.

GRANT CARMICHAEL COLLECTION

We
are pleased to announce a very special edition of the Collectors'
Loft which comprises of whiskies from the private collection
of Grant Carmichael.
Grant was Distillery Manager at Caol Ila from 1963-1968, Manager
at Burghead Maltings 1968-1978, General Manager Islay Distilleries
(Caol Ila, Lagavulin, Port Ellen) 1978-1983 (he supervised the closure
of Port Ellen), so finally Senior Manager Islay (Caol Ila and Lagavulin)
1983-1995.
Each bottle has a sticker on the reverse signed by Grant and stating
that it is from his collection. |

I remember the first
Black Bowmore coming into the shop in 1993, a 29yo form 1964 of which
we sold our allocation of 24 bottles for £93 (each). Now there
are folk (suddenly very wise folk) who pay nearly two grand for
one.
This time the same
vintage but 42 years old, we had an allocation of two, bit of luck really
as it's a tad more expensive than 93 quid...

Glengoyne 21 gets
a makeover with package and liquid, both excellent. A refugee Bruichladdich
that was exclusive to other sellers but because they can't sell for
toffee we now have the job of selling it - it's a heavily peated variant
like a pale Infinity, I recall it being very good.
And a superb book,
one for the anoracks admitedly, but everyone should look at it, especially
any anoracks planning on writing a whisky book, just to prove that most
should give up, now.
